The FCC was created to enforce the rules which were expect to generate revenues, as well as employ a handful of the lucky chosen to have a well paid cushy job which didnt require much effort. Its right up there with the Securities & Exchange Commission, and the better business Bureau.

I got my tech and then general within a year of one another and then waited 10 years before I tried for my extra. I made it first try and for years I always said general gives me everything I need I would never try for extra. But I became an EC and DEC in ARES so decided that if I was going to have those positions it would look more professional to have the extra class license. Do I really use the extra little bit of frequency space. No not really. Only once in a blue moon do I use them. Its nice to have.

Burt like to "tell it like it is". Why doesn't everyone tell the truth about him? He's a jerk and amateur radio (and probably the world) will be better off without him. How's that for telling it like it is? I have no idea why people think he's "funny" and tolerate his hateful comments. When somebody tells you who they are, believe them.

Have you consider using an ebike battery to charge these stations? I have a 52v 20ah battery with the xt60 connections.

I agree with you about the intersectionality of hobbies and cross-over knowledge base. I started as a Part 107, but became an amateur operation (KE9ANL) because the climate in Chicago makes it hard to fly (always windy).

SSB CB has qualities above most QRP HF ham rigs. Getting into QRP, I'm getting back into SSB CB. I'm into GMRS too. Being a ham made me a better CBer.

Was that the entire explanation? Lol . I dont like the fact you can run a tesla coil with a 555 timer IC or a transistor. With the spark gap driver I used to imagine it kinda like voltage builds up in the capacitor until it gets strong enough to leap across a gap to the closest electrode. And it continues to quickly rise and fall depending. So to me its essentially a slingshot type deal. But I'm now realizing..... I'm associating a tesla coil with a flyback transformer. Hey wait.... Flybacks have an iron coupling, Tesla coils are just aircore....hmmm I need to learn what the iron does differant than air

I was a member of MARS during and after the VIET NAM years when our main mission was traffic handling for troops stationed over seas. Disaster operations were there as well. I started in the 4th Naval MARS district which eventually merged with the 1st. I held down the District Frequency and Net Manager in both cases. Great times in those days.

I passed Extra and became a VE recently. I am working with 5 teams now and do multiple sessions per week. I find this very enjoyable. Watching the expressions on people’s faces when they learned they passed is priceless.

A ham that started just after WW2 told me a story of the first time a member of the radio club tried SSB. He said AM was all we had until the government announced they would allow side band. Those new radio sets were so expensive only the rich could afford them. One day a fellow ham that owned an insurance company bought one. The man’s station was actually a shack behind his home. The afternoon they were going to try the new fangled side band, he said there must have been 40 people show up to watch. They had the doors and windows open so the people outside could hear. The place had room for maybe five people but about ten were packed inside. The guys were not sure what to expect. When the station called CQ another station finally answered. Shock was not the word. They were talking to a station from a distance of more than three times the range they had experienced from AM. Needless to say many of the guys started working overtime and second jobs to get a new SSB set. But now radio has come a long way. I recently bought an old tube radio transmitter I’m restoring to join the AM net bandwagon. You can’t beat the warm sound of 150 watts on AM.
